Description of materials
I only use gold filled components to create my jewellery, as they are significantly more durable than gold plated alternatives, please read below for more details.
Gold filled (also known as rolled gold) comprises a solid brass (copper and zinc) core over which gold is mechanically bonded using heat and pressure. The difference between gold filled and gold plated items is the amount of gold used over the brass core. Gold filled items must contain, by law, 5% or 1/20 of gold by weight. In contrast gold plated items only have a very thin layer of gold, meaning the gold layer can peel or flake very easily exposing the base metal beneath. Because the gold layer on gold filled items is so much thicker, it is far more resistant and with proper care can last for many years.
All the gemstones I use are semi-precious, the vintage charms are solid gold and the smaller silver collection is all from sterling silver.
UK Delivery
Delivery costs £8.00 per order, and once your order is made it will be sent via Special Delivery Next Day Service. This is very secure and will require someone to sign for your parcel. We will notify you by email the day the order is dispatched. We aim to deliver all orders within 7 days, usually within a day or two, but as all the jewellery is made to order, sometimes it may take a little longer. If you do need the items by a certain date please email sales@lucysimmons.com to see if we can accommodate this. All payments must be received and authorised before shipment.
International Delivery
International delivery costs £20.00 per order and will be sent via International Signed for Delivery, which is a fully insurable and trackable service. We aim to deliver all international orders within 2-3 weeks but as all the jewellery is made to order, sometimes it may take longer to be delivered. Prices are in GB Pounds Sterling on a delivery duty unpaid basis. The recipient may have to pay import duty or a formal customs entry fee prior to or on delivery. Additional taxes, fees or levies may apply according to local legislation and customers are advised to check these details themselves before placing the order.
Signing For Your Delivery
A signature will be required on delivery of your order.
Late and lost deliveries
If your delivery has been delayed, then please contact us and we will provide you with the tracking number to enable you to chase it up with the Royal Mail.
We cannot refund or replace lost items until 20 working days after the date of despatch (30 days for international items), as this is when the Royal Mail classes items as being lost.
International delivery - When items are sent to another country, your parcel is often handled by more than one postal service. When we send a parcel abroad, the actual delivery of the item will be the responsibility of the postal service in the country the items are going to. Delays can often be caused by customs checks, which can sometimes take up to 1-2 weeks.
Items not received but tracked as being delivered - This frequently happens when items are delivered to places of work. In some cases, your item might have been delivered to a post room or colleague within your company and someone else will have signed for it. In these cases, you can request a proof of delivery certificate from the Royal Mail (www.royalmail.com) by filling in a signature request form. Please note that we do not refund or replace items that are tracked as being delivered. For this reason, we always recommend that you get items delivered to your home address.
We cannot be held responsible for goods that are lost or delayed in transit.
Return / refund policy
We hope that you are pleased with your item, but, if you are not, we are happy to exchange it for you. We don't offer refunds, unless an item is faulty, as all the jewellery is handmade to order. Please contact us within 7 days of receipt to arrange the exchange of the item or items. They must be sent back in their original packaging and in an unworn condition. We will then arrange the exchange. For hygiene reasons, we are not able to accept returns on Earrings unless they are faulty.
To arrange an exchange, or if the item you received is faulty or not what you originally ordered, please email sales@lucysimmons.com quoting your name and address, details of the product, the reason for return and whether you require a refund or replacement. We will then advise on how to proceed with the return.
The item is your responsibility until it reaches us. For your own protection, we recommend that you return the item or items via Special Delivery and insure them at the appropriate value. We cannot be held responsible for returns that are lost in transit. The cost of returning the item is your responsibility and the postage would only be refunded if the item was faulty and only if we are notified within 7 days of receipt.
All products to be returned must be carefully repackaged in their original packing and be in an unworn condition. We will not exchange goods that have been worn, do not have their original packaging or show obvious signs of abuse. In this instance, the goods will be returned to the buyer.
In the interests of fraud prevention, your refund will be issued by the same method that you paid within 28 days of receipt of the return.

Making responsibly at Lucy Simmons
As a small independent jewellery maker, I take great care in choosing materials that are made to last and that reflect my values of design, integrity and longevity. Every decision from the way I source and design, to how I package and send each piece is made with thought and intention. Because I run every part of the business myself, I'm able to keep things as low-impact, personal and mindful as possible.
1. Thoughtful materials and lasting design
Most of my jewellery is made from gold filled components, a purposeful choice when I started the business. Gold filled jewellery is much more durable than gold plating or vermeil. It doesn't peel or wear away after a few months, and with a little care, it can last for years. Gold filled materials are typically made with 50-100% recycled gold, which helps reduce the demand for newly mined metals.
A small specially commissioned collection of 9ct gold heart and smiley face charms are crafted from 100% recycled gold. For all future solid gold commissions, I'm committed to using recycled gold only.
My vintage charm collection supports circular design by giving new life to beautiful older pieces, promoting reuse and reducing waste. I also work in small batches and buy limited quantities of beads and stones to further reduce waste and keep each piece intentional. Leftover stones are reused in new designs, such as my 'all the colours' necklace, which is made from unused beads from earlier pieces.
To help your jewellery last even longer, I offer a repair service at minimal cost. Whether a necklace has been pulled, a bracelet has got caught and snapped or you need a replacement for a lost earring, just get in touch via email and I will always do my best to help. My aim is to keep each piece loved and in use for as long as possible.
2. Responsible sourcing
While full supply chain transparency is a challenge - especially for very small businesses - I do my best to make responsible choices based on the information available to me, and I work with my suppliers to understand their sourcing practices. Most of my beads, gems and findings are sourced from trusted UK suppliers.
My main supplier has an ethical policy that includes written assurances from manufacturers stating their gold is recycled and conflict-free. Many gemstones come from small, family-run mining operations, where full traceability isn't always possible. These communities often rely on the trade for their livelihoods, and for this reason, I believe that boycotting small suppliers isn't the answer. I aim instead to support suppliers who have close relationships with their sources, and will continue asking questions and learning.
3. Reducing waste & considered packaging
I try to keep packaging as minimal as possible. At the checkout customers can request gift packaging if needed.
All jewellery is packaged in recyclable eco-friendly boxes, and organic cotton pouches, which many customers reuse for travel or storage - something I really love hearing.
I’m currently moving from recycled bubblewrap mailers to fully recyclable, compostable paper-padded envelopes. Once my current supply runs out, all orders will be shipped in the new packaging.
Offcuts and unused materials are always repurposed into new pieces wherever I can.
4. A small, low-impact business
I run the business from home, which means no studio energy bills, no commute, and very low overheads. I do everything myself - from designing and making the jewellery, to photography, website management, packaging orders and walking to the post office. This keeps things small, slow and considered, with no unnecessary transport, couriers or outsourcing.
5. Giving back
Giving back is an important part of Lucy Simmons, and I'm proud to support causes that align with my values and make a positive impact in the community. Earlier this year I partnered with The FairGround to donate 10% of April's sales from a new collection, to Sharewear - a charity working to tackle clothing poverty. I’m proud that these pieces are connecting with customers and making even a small difference.
For each Soler x Lucy Simmons heart necklace sold, I donate £10 to The Children's Book Project. I volunteered at this charity during lockdown and saw first-hand the huge impact they have, providing books to disadvantaged families across the UK. What started as a small initiative in west London has grown into a national charity doing incredible work.
Each Christmas, I support the Rugby Portobello Trust, through their annual fundraising fair. This brilliant charity helps children, young people and families all year round in the local community.
I've also recently joined The Daisy Trust, another wonderful organisation that hosts a fundraising fair in the Fulham area to help people in need in the community.
6. Looking ahead
I’m continuing to learn and evolve, whether that's finding better materials, improving my processes, or asking more questions. I know I won’t always get it right, but I'll keep doing my best and stay thoughtful, open and transparent along the way.
If you have any questions or ideas, I’d love to hear from you.
